The JAECOO 5 is a B-segment compact SUV from Chery's premium sub-brand JAECOO, serving as the international export version of the global JAECOO J5 (marketed domestically in China as the Tansuo 06 Pro). From the second half of 2025 onwards, it has been progressively launched across several key markets, including the UK, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. As of May 2026, the JAECOO 5 is globally available with three powertrain configurations: all-electric (E5), pure petrol (1.6T), and hybrid (SHS-H). By April 2026, global monthly deliveries of the JAECOO 5 reached 25,015 units, making it the brand's breakthrough model to surpass 25,000 units in a single month.
In terms of customer feedback and critical reception, the JAECOO 5 is widely recognized as a benchmark for value for money. Key praised attributes include exceptional price-to-spec ratio, generous cabin and boot space, solid build quality, and standard Level 2 ADAS suite. In its April 2026 review, Top Gear commended its sharp styling, noting it avoids looking cheap while offering top-spec kit for under RM30,000—a specification level typically starting from RM30,000 among competitors. However, motoring reviews also noted several shortcomings: the 1.6T petrol engine is somewhat thirsty, the hybrid system's fuel economy trails behind established European rivals like the Nissan Juke Hybrid, the EV version's DC charging speed is relatively modest, and overall ride refinement and chassis composure over broken tarmac lack the polished finesse of European rivals.
